BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:
John Eckman, Maury Edwards, Chris Kakimi, Shan Lee, Joan Licari, Jeffrey Lin, Brent Palmer, Lucy
Pedregon, Mike Williams, Jeff Yann, Adria Ybara.
Minutes of the February 27, 2012 meeting were approved unanimously on motion by Mike
Williams seconded by Maury Edwards.
Expenditures of $161.05 were recorded for expenses associated with the Annual
Interest receipts of $0.73 were also recorded resulting in an account balance of $5,832.27.
LAW ENFORCEMENT UPDATE:
CHP Officer Al Perez advised that CHP has been increasing patrols on Turnbull Canyon Road near Los Altos
HS in an attempt to increase student safety.
He also reported that CHP recorded 38 DUI arrests in
Hacienda Heights in February.
The captain of the Santa Fe Springs Office reported that the office retained
the same number of officers when portions of its enforcement area were transferred to Baldwin Park,
allowing greater coverage by SF Springs officers within the smaller territory/
Sheriff Brian Sanford reported on two burglary arrests in Hacienda Heights in February through homeowner
awareness and emphasized the importance of reporting suspicious neighborhood activities to the Sheriff’s
office immediately when observed.
Habitat Authority Ranger Francine Godoy reported on activities in the nearby hills, reminding trail users that
dogs are welcome but must be on leash and that trails are open only during daylight hours.
Beach Conservation Corps is currently making improvements on the Puma Trail.
She also advised that an
Earth Day trail clean-up event will be held at Seventh Avenue on April 21 and that the Los Robles Academy
Junior Ranger Program, active for more than 10 years, will begin March 20.
Lerna Shirinian, representing Assemblyman Calderon, spoke of the middle class scholarship program,
available to families with an annual income less than $150,000.
She also discussed AB1500 and AB1501,
which will review tuition costs for students at state universities, colleges and community colleges in
Dickie Simmons reported on several events around Hacienda Heights, including an exhibit of the Vietnam
War Dignity Wall at Rose Hills Memorial Park.

Roger Johnston announced that Cindy Singer has accepted a new position with the County Library
Department and is no longer at the Hacienda Heights Library.
Jeff Yann and John Eckman reported that the request from Hong Kong Market to sell
packaged spirits, action on which was tabled at the February meeting, was approved by the Board via e-
mail vote following receipt of requested clarifications from their representative.
Adria Ybarra introduced Andrew Yip who reported on a volunteer-developed Hacienda Heights web page
created on Facebook.
Since creation, it has received more than 1,500 “Likes”, showing great interest on
the part of residents in news about the community.

Environment & Water:
Reported on Sanitation Districts request to change operating
hours at the Puente hills MRF and on uncertainty regarding park development by County Parks and
Recreation of a park on the closed landfill.
He will prepare a letter seeking clarification of this matter
to Supervisor Knabe for discussion and approval at the April meeting.
Reported receipt of one new Life member and 2 Annual renewals.
On motion by Adria Ybarra seconded by Maury Edwards, expenditure for postage to send
reminders to non-renewed annual members was approved unanimously.
Tentative date for the 2013 Annual Meeting is Friday, January 18, 2913.
Newsletters are being printed and will go out this week.
Parks & Recreation:
the meeting of events at Schabarum Park and the
Senior Center, as well as the Sanitation Districts Earth Day event on April 14.
Also advised that a
new gazebo has been installed at Schabarum Park and is available for weddings.
Programs & Websit
has contacted the SGV Tribune for posting of HHIA meetings
on the community calendar.

committee duties and responsibilities, which will be filed for future reference.
Public Safety & Health:

Brent Palmer reported that construction at the Colima slide will
begin in April and that Seventh Avenue improvements will likely begin around September.
Simmons will arrange a presentation on the Seventh Avenue improvements at the April meeting.
Water & Utility Services:
Reported on recent perchlorate contamination issue in
Baldwin Park and La Puente and briefly described various local water agencies.
Reported that 17 cases were filed with Regional Planning in February, including
a request to re-open a closed sports bar at 15825 E. Gale Avenue..
Announced that HHIA has issued its goals for 2012, including assignments of responsible parties.
Regional Planning will hear the case for installing a new cell phone tower on Kwis Avenue on April 3.
Meals on Wheels will hold a fundraising event at their office on Saturday.
